WAN Launches Beta of the 3DGS Viewer "Machica": BIM/CIM Overlay and Browser-Based Sharing
World Area Networks Co., Ltd. (President and CEO: Ayumu Mitani; Head office: Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture; "WAN") has released a beta version of "Machica," a 3D viewer that overlays BIM/CIM data on construction sites reproduced in 3D, with the aim of advancing information sharing in the construction industry.
By using 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), the service delivers more detailed and lifelike spatial representation than before, along with free viewpoint control. It also supports viewing in a web browser, helping stakeholders share information smoothly.
Beyond construction sites, it can also be used to simulate the placement of equipment at tourist facilities, supporting planning before installation.
Background

Conventional 3D viewers typically displayed BIM data loaded onto point cloud data, but this approach had the following issues:
- Low visibility, making the content hard to grasp
- The sense of the actual site did not come across well
- A dedicated application was required, making sharing cumbersome
In particular, there were many cases where building a shared understanding and making decisions among stakeholders took a long time.
Four key features of the service
1. Reproduces sites in high-definition 3DCG

Using 3DGS, Machica generates 3D spaces with near-photographic texture.
Users can move their viewpoint freely through 360 degrees, grasping conditions much as if they were on site.
2. Overlay display of BIM/CIM data
By overlaying BIM/CIM data on the reproduced 3D space, design information and current conditions can be checked together, making before-and-after comparisons and progress checks more efficient.
3. Easy browser-based sharing

No dedicated application needs to be installed; viewing requires only sharing a URL.
This enables smooth and fast information sharing with clients and other stakeholders.
4. Comment and progress management features

Markers and comments can be added in the 3D space, centralizing communication among stakeholders.
Progress management is also supported, helping visualize the project as a whole.
Future plans
Because it can import BIM/CIM data, Machica is expected to be used not only at construction sites but also for evaluating the introduction of equipment at tourist facilities.
We are looking for partners

WAN is looking for partners to help with trials and feature improvements for Machica.
Based on feedback gained through use at actual construction sites, we will improve the accuracy of features to match on-site operations and enhance the quality of the service.
