"A Door to a New Realm of Entertainment" | Ryoma Sakamoto VR Theater

Based on the "Ryoma Sakamoto VR Theater," which we produced in 2016, we would like to explore the appeal and potential of VR theaters.

Introduction | What is the Ryoma Sakamoto VR Theater?

The scenery and people of the era in which Ryoma Sakamoto lived are recreated in 3DCG.
The 3DCG footage we produced is displayed in 360° across the entire walls of the VR theater, giving viewers an experience as if they had traveled back in time to the era when Ryoma was born.

During the show, viewers can cheer Ryoma on using "naruko," the wooden clappers used at Kochi's Yosakoi Festival.
It is a participatory VR theater that incorporates game elements, with the story branching according to how loudly the audience cheers.

"VR Theater: A Door to a New Realm of Entertainment"

Advances in VR (virtual reality) technology have made it possible for us to enjoy entertainment experiences like never before. Among them, the VR theater holds the potential to offer entertainment experiences in a whole new dimension.

1. Delivering a fully immersive experience

A VR theater draws the audience into a fully immersive experience, as if they were in another world. Using special headsets and headphones, they can experience realistic images and 3D sound effects. This allows them to enjoy entertainment such as films and stage plays from a new perspective.

2. Free viewpoints and interactive experiences

In a VR theater, audience members can freely control their own viewpoint and enjoy the experience within the work more deeply. Changing their viewpoint or looking around makes for a more realistic experience. Some works also incorporate interactive elements that allow the audience to influence how the story unfolds.

3. Overcoming geographical constraints and improving accessibility

VR theaters can bring entertainment to audiences while overcoming geographical constraints and the burden of travel. For people living in remote areas or those with physical limitations in particular, VR theaters become an accessible entertainment option. Audiences can enjoy works at home or anywhere using a VR headset.

4. Offering diverse content and experiences

VR theaters can offer a wide variety of content and experiences. Works in many genres, including films, documentaries, stage plays, live concerts and sporting events, can be enjoyed in VR format. Exhibitions and events in virtual spaces are also possible, giving audiences opportunities for new experiences.

5. Creating a new venue for creative expression

VR theaters offer creators and artists a new venue for expression. By exploring the possibilities of imagery and staging in virtual spaces, which differ from conventional films and stage plays, new forms of entertainment works are expected to emerge. This should allow the entertainment industry as a whole to develop even further.

Finally

VR theaters have the potential to fundamentally change our entertainment experiences. Their immersive experiences, interactive elements and diverse content combine to open up a new realm of entertainment. We look forward to the day when the VR theaters of the future revolutionize our daily lives.
