Excavator Simulator Trial Session Report – Now Recruiting Early Development Partners

On February 19, 2025, World Area Networks Co., Ltd. held a trial session for "METATORE," our latest excavator simulator. Two companies took part in this session: Tagami Juki Kaihatsu Co., Ltd. and Miyabe Co., Ltd.

What we did and what participants said

In this session, we explained the system overview and the benefits of adoption, based on our proposal for the excavator simulator currently under development. Participants also got into the simulator themselves for a realistic operating experience.

Program

  • Proposal briefing We introduced the simulator's features, how it improves operational efficiency, and how it contributes to safety management. Participants asked many questions, which gave us a chance to discuss the system's practicality and customization options.
  • Simulator operation experience Participants tried both a dedicated cockpit unit and an easy-to-use gaming lever controller. They trained on simulations based on real construction-site scenarios and experienced how the system builds practical skills, especially in situations that demand safety checks and precise operation.

Feedback from participating companies

  • "The simulator's quality is high; it felt as realistic as operating the real machine."
  • "Even in VR, you get a real sense of being on site. It's a very effective training tool."
  • "It looks like we could start using it right away to train our actual workers."

Key features of the "METATORE" excavator simulator

  1. Multi-device support Can be used with VR headsets (Meta Quest, etc.) or on large monitors. Provides a flexible training environment suited to each site.
  2. Realistic operation and a safe training environment Supports both a dedicated cockpit unit that reproduces the feel of the real machine and easy-to-use gaming controllers. Training functions let users learn excavator work and operation in a training environment reproduced in a virtual space. Provides a safe learning environment where operating mistakes in the virtual space never lead to real accidents.
  3. Proficiency management and data analysis A proficiency management function (integrated with the METATORE Platform) visualizes each operator's skill level.
  4. Highly extensible system design Functions can be extended to meet each company's needs, such as adding work management features or custom scenarios. In the future, we also plan to implement AI-based operation evaluation and cloud-based data sharing.
